Cahier 05 - 2012 Single - Plateaued Choice

چکیده
Single-plateaued preferences generalize single-peaked preferences by allowing for multiple best elements. These preferences have played an important role in areas such as voting, strategy-proofness and matching problems. We examine the notion of singleplateauedness in a choice-theoretic setting. Single-plateaued choice is characterized by means of a collinear interval continuity property in the presence of independence of irrelevant alternatives. Further results establish that our notion of single-plateauedness conforms to the motivation underlying the term and we analyze the consequences of alternative continuity properties. The importance of basic assumptions such as closedness and convexity is discussed. Journal of Economic Literature Classification Nos.: D11, D71.

A maximal domain of preferences for strategy-proof, efficient, and simple rules in the division problem
The division problem consists of allocating an amount M of a perfectly divisible good among a group of n agents. Sprumont (1991) showed that if agents have single-peaked preferences over their shares, the uniform rule is the unique strategy-proof, efficient, and anonymous rule. Ching and Serizawa (1998) extended this result by showing that the set of single-plateaued preferences is the largest ...
متن کاملAnterior laxity, slippage, and recovery of function in the first year after tibialis allograft anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
BACKGROUND The increase in anterior laxity and slippage is greater with metal interference screw fixation of a hamstring anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft than a bone-patellar tendon-bone graft. HYPOTHESIS When slippage-resistant fixation is used with a soft tissue graft, early recovery of function does not result in a clinically important increase in anterior laxity and slippage STUDY...
متن کاملArithmetic Social Choice: Arrow’s Theorem and Single Peaked Preference
We construct an algebraic model of the social choice theory. First we give an arithmetic proof of Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem. Next we apply our algebraic method to single-peaked preference domain to establish two theorems. (i) A value of Arrovian social welfare function on single peaked preference domain is single-plateaued with at most two maximal elements. (ii) An ordering by majority voti...
متن کاملStrategic requirements with indifference: single-peaked versus single-plateaued preferences
We concentrate on the problem of the provision of one pure public good whenever agents that form the society have either single-plateaued preferences or single-peaked preferences over the set of alternatives. We are interested in comparing the relationships between di¤erent nonmanipulability notions under these two domains. On the single-peaked domain, under strategy-proofness, non-bossiness is...
متن کاملCahier 2002 - 10 Efficient and Non - Deteriorating Choice
We analyze collective choice procedures with respect to their rationalizability by means of profiles of individual preference orderings. A selection function is a generalization of a choice function where selected alternatives may depend on a reference (or status quo) alternative in addition to the set of feasible options. Given the number of agents n, a selection function satisfies efficient a...
